This first line comes from Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson. It was the first Sanderson book I ever read and it spurned an absolute love affair with high fantasy. The books in his Cosmere universe are some of my all-time favorites, and I highly recommend starting with this one, if you have never read one of his books. Poor Vasher does so often find himself in trouble.
