Wow! What a month! So many photos taken, books painted, challenges completed, and of course, books read. I finished 28 books this month, which I have never done before in my life. I hope that bodes well for my ultimate goal of reading 200 books in 2019. I won’t cover the 10 books I read during 24 in 48 again, so if you missed that list you can read about my crazy 24 hours of reading here. I’ll go through the other 18 books in 3 sections: Backlist books, 2019 releases, and ARCs.
Backlist Books
Because I am participating in Beat the Backlist this year, I want to highlight all the backlist books I read throughout the year.
In January, 14 of my books were from my backlist. Some of them were:
- Deathless by Catherine M Valente
- Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu
- The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw
- The Song Rising by Samantha Shannon
- The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang
- Kingdom of Needle and Bone by Mira Grant
- Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young
- The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding by Alexandra Bracken
- Batman: White Knight by Sean Gordon Murphy
I also read 2 work books about software, but I don’t think anyone really wants to talk about those? xD
2019 New Releases
As the year goes on, i’m hoping to keep this list fairly small, especially compared to my Backlist reads, but there were a couple brand new books I read this month. Some of these I read as ARCs, but they were released this month so I’ll include them here.
- The Cold is in her Bones by Peternelle Arendalle?
- A Curse so Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer
- The Silver Cord by Gabriel Lea
- King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo
ARCs!
Here are the ARCs I read in January!
- Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte
- Once and Future by Amy Rose Capetta & Cori McCarthy
- Wicked Saints by Emily Duncan
- Descendant of the Crane by Joan He
That’s everything! If I had to choose a favorite…well I don’t think I can but I absolutely love Wicked Saints, King of Scars, and Reign of the Fallen. Some of my least favorites this month were Sky in the Deep and Four Dead Queens.
Tell me about your favorite read this month! Here’s to some great reads in February!
28 books? Wow, well done. Sounds like a productive month! (Have to admit that I only managed a tiny fraction of that…)

Nothing wrong with that! Something just clicked for me this month, it’ll probably never happen again. xD
