It’s been a little while since my last somewhat general life update, so I thought it was high time I check in! You may have noticed that I’ve been less present on the blog (I’m not going away I promise!). There are several reasons for that, and some of them are awesome! Some of them were really awful, but getting better!
The first and coolest thing that has been taking up my writing time is my work with The Convention Collective. I’ve been writing up a storm over there with over 50 posts in just a few months. The site covers all things pop culture. If you a fan of the goings on at conventions like San Diego Comic Con, or New York Comic Con, I highly recomment checking it out. We will have some coverage of events surrounding SDCC soon, and you can check out some interviews from Emerald City Comic Con on the site now. It’s been amazing writing with TCC, and I look forward to continuing to for a long long time.
I’ve been doing a lot of traveling since March. I had a few conventions, a work trip, and my cousin’s wedding on the east coast all over 8 weeks or so. It really took a toll on me mentally, and it’s been hard to keep up with everything. Summers are always difficult for me, I feel like I get Seasonal Affective Disorder in reverse. The heat and additional sun always seems to stress me out. With SDCC around the corner, I’ll get some time off of work but then I’ll also be on my feet carrying multiple bags full of arcs for 5 days. It’s equal parts awesome and exhausting.
I did start a new anti-depressant recently after feeling like I just couldn’t catch up and started to lose my will to even try. I was close to dropping things I knew I would regret (like my real job :|) so I knew I had to do something. Thankfully I was able to, and I felt better in just a few weeks. I’m even on a good path to losing some weight, which is really exciting. I hope I can stay on this positive trajectory. It was really hard to just feel like I didn’t care about anything for a month. Meds aren’t for everyone, I’m definitely a proponent of talk therapy, but if you feel like you need help please do ask for it. You can do something, you don’t have to suffer everyday.
Since I returned home from my last trip to Pennsylvania I’ve been working hard on some painted books for my Etsy shop. I’ve missed that small amount of additional income so it’s good to get sales coming in again. I really missed painting as well. It’s still a lot of fun.
My reading has been quite slow. I’m currently in the middle of The Dragon Republic, and really looking forward to finishing it. I’m also participating in the Total Cover Love readathon this week, hosted by @trissinalovesbooks on instagram. It’s a readathon all about reading those books you just bought for the cover. I think I’ll start with Gilded Wolves or maybe An Enchantment of Ravens. I’ll try to do a wrap up post at the end of the week!
So that’s my update! Let me know if you’d like most posts like this. I really do want to figure out a method to get more content up on a regular basis again. It’s hard when my reading slows down and I don’t have as many reviews to do. Let me know how you’re doing in the comments! Thanks for reading.
