Voices: The Final Hours of Joan of Arc – NetGalley Review

February 3, 2019 / SamMaybeReading / 2 Comments

I requested a digital arc of Voices from NetGalley. I was thrilled to see the approval for this one in my inbox because I have long held a fascination for Joan of Arc. Back in middle school, I did a big research project about her, and I just fell in love with her moving and … Continue reading Voices: The Final Hours of Joan of Arc – NetGalley Review

Four Dead Queens: Too Many POVs

January 19, 2019January 30, 2019 / SamMaybeReading / 3 Comments

I received an ARC of Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte at San Diego Comic-con last summer. I was cautiously optimistic since YA and royals don't always mix well for me. Sadly, I did not end up enjoying this one and I want to talk about the reasons why, because they are things that always throw me … Continue reading Four Dead Queens: Too Many POVs

Slayer by Kiersten White|Good for fans of Buffy?

December 19, 2018January 2, 2019 / SamMaybeReading / 1 Comment

Slayer by Kiersten White sat near the very top of my want list at San Diego Comic-con last summer. I fought pretty hard to get an ARC (with some help from Christine) and I had really high hopes because I know that White is a big Buffy fan! I also read and loved The Dark Descent of … Continue reading Slayer by Kiersten White|Good for fans of Buffy?

In an Absent Dream: ARC Review

October 25, 2018January 2, 2019 / SamMaybeReading / 2 Comments

I received an arc of In an Absent Dream by Seanan McGuire from Tor Publishing in exchange for an honest review. I have been head over heels for The Wayward Children books for a long time now so I was very excited to share my love for this one! I also loved doing a buddy read … Continue reading In an Absent Dream: ARC Review

Beneath the Citadel: ARC Review

October 9, 2018January 2, 2019 / SamMaybeReading / 2 Comments

I received an ARC of Beneath the Citadel by Destiny Soria from Abrams Kids in exchange for an honest review! I was immediately attracted to the amazing book cover, and it's spooky atmosphere. The premise sounded pretty familiar for YA Fantasy, so I went in hoping for a new world to immerse myself in. Though I did … Continue reading Beneath the Citadel: ARC Review

The Good Demon: ARC Review

September 28, 2018January 2, 2019 / SamMaybeReading / 3 Comments

Abrams Books was kind enough to send me an arc of The Good Demon by Jimmy Cajoleas in exchange for a review. The book is already out, so you don't have to wait to add it to your Fall reading list! That is definitely my recommendation as I loved this dark demonic read full of heart, grief, … Continue reading The Good Demon: ARC Review

Toil & Trouble: NetGalley Review

September 24, 2018January 2, 2019 / SamMaybeReading / 3 Comments

I received a digital arc of Toil & Trouble from NetGalley. I have really been feeling the witch vibes this Fall from other books like The Casquette Girls so I was looking forward to a whole mess of witchy tales! Unfortunately, I found the stories more messy than interesting. There were a few standouts that I enjoyed, keep reading … Continue reading Toil & Trouble: NetGalley Review

Happy #pintasticfriday! Today we are talking about love. I picked a skull to represent love... romance may not be my strong point. 😅 Anyway! I fell hard for someone in Wicked Saints, and I think a lot of you will too. I can't wait for it to fall into the waiting arms of the reading public. 🖤💀🖤 I am so psyched it is Friday, finally. I feel like this week has been far too long. However, yesterday I officially made plans to go to Seattle and see @curiousfoxreads, @anovelescape, and hopefully some other books peeps too! I'll be at Emerald City Comic-con all 4 days so if you are around and want to meet me, hit me up! 🖤💀🖤 Con season is right around the corner, so get ready for lots of updates on ECCC, Wondercon, and of course SDCC! It's my favorite time of year! Have you ever been to a pop culture convention? 🖤💀🖤 . #gmbingochallenge: enemies to lovers . . #bookstagram #pinstagram #booksandbones #wickedsaints #netgalley #spellbook #bloodmagic #lynx #odditieshaus #readersofinstagram #emeraldcitycomicon #igbooks
What's the last backlist book you read? I pulled both of these books off my Backlist this week, and I am feeling all the things!!! These books made me fall in love with love. They are each very different atmospherically, and I love them both. I can't wait for the next book in August! 🖤🖤🖤 I hope you can take some time today to share some love with others, and more importantly with yourself! I'm binge watching Master Chef. 😆 I'm looking forward to getting discount chocolate tomorrow too. 🖤🖤🖤 It's been great reading a lot again this week! Heart of Thorns is next for me. If you've read it let me know what you thought! 🖤🖤🖤 . #fnwreadchallenge: book recommended by a friend #gmbingochallenge: ship that sank #romancebingogame: first kiss & couple on cover . . #offireandstars #inkmistress #valentines #bookstagram #readersofinstagram #igbooks #heart #love #romancebooks #booksandcandles
Happy Galentine's! I definitely the superior holiday this month. To continue the celebration, my giveaway drawing will happen later today, and a book I painted is available in a giveaway from @pages.remembered!! 🖤🖤🖤 I finished Ice Wolves yesterday, and I'm about to finish Of Fire and Stars this morning. They both address magical groups that are oppressed based on their inborn abilities. I love how Of Fire and Stars uses that set up to discuss homophobia. Both books have been great for me. 🖤🖤🖤 Tag a gal pal you would love to send a Galentine to in the comments! Here are some of my favorite book gals, but I love for you all!: @acouplereads @trissinalovesbooks @notthepathtonarnia @love.books.and.coffee @frayedbindings @bookwnoname @bookaddictsteph @hdbblog 🖤🖤🖤 . #fnwreadchallenge: book about siblings #romancebingogame: set in winter . . #bookstagram #icewolves #scorchdragons #alchemyandink #bookandcandle #readersofinstagram #igbooks #pagesremembered #odditieshaus
Happy release day! To Night Owl from Dogfish is one of my new favorite middle grade contemporary stories. It is a tale of two erstwhile internet pen pals who slowly become best friends. They bond over a shared love of nature and animals. I just adored this book, and it warmed my heart. 🖤🖤🖤 I am so pleased to be a part of the blog tour for this book! You can read more of my thoughts in my latest blog post! 🖤🖤🖤 I think contemporary middle grade is a win for me. In general I love middle grade. The stories are just so uplifting, but still dive deep emotionally. Love it. I'm reading Ice Wolves by @amiekaufmanauthor right now and I'm loving the attention to blind hatred and the dangers of miscommunication. Highly recommend, and book 2 is out next month!! 🖤🖤🖤 Leave me a middle grade recc in the comments! 🖤🖤🖤 . #gmbingochallenge - enemies to lovers: certainly not a romantic kind of love but these girls form an inseparable sister bond! . . #bookstagram #sundayshoutouts #penguinteen #readersofinstagram #tonightowlfromdogfish #blogtour #igbooks #middlegradebooks #leesmenagerie #coffee #meritbadges
When a book is called out for content are you more or less likely to read it? In the case of BLOOD HEIR I was lucky enough to get a digital arc long before the book was pulled from publication. I wanted to weigh in, and you can't review a book you haven't read! My thoughts are up on my blog (link in bio) along with my story highlights. 🖤🖤🖤 I loved this book. It wasn't perfect, but it did nothing to warrant being pulled off the shelves. I respect the author's choice not to publish, it's her art & her choice. I do hope that BLOOD HEIR is published someday though. 🖤🖤🖤 I just bookstagrammed in front of some repair men fixing the heater in my condo. 🙈 They probably think I'm a huge weirdo carrying my goat skull around. Do you ever bookstagram away from home? 🖤🖤🖤 . #fnwreadchallenge: historical retelling #gmbingochallenge: character crush - Ramson 😍 #romancebingogame: opposites attract . . #bookstagram #readersofinstagram #igbooks #bloodheir #netgalley #booksandbones #bookishcandle #woodwick #jackrabbit #bastthegoat
Wow what a Saturday! I spent the entire day @littledameshop working on a jackalope taxidermy. If you want to see him, check out my stories! It was pretty physically and emotionally exhausting. I was very conscious of trying to respect the rabbit and really create something beautiful. Thanks to @gotham_taxidermy I was able to do that, and it was incredible. 🖤🖤🖤 I read this series recently and absolutely fell in love with Odessa. She is a necromancer, she is bi, she has a friend with a large bear what's not to love!? So happy I gave these books a chance. Thanks @bwreviewsblog & @kculver88 for convincing me. 🖤 Of course I can't get over those book covers! 🖤🖤🖤 Today I am planning to do lots of reading, some blogging, and some painting. I may do a little of each and then just veg out and play Kingdom Hearts. 🙈 🖤🖤🖤 QOTD: You can have 1 animal live with you your entire life, what do you choose & why? AOTD: I would want a lil fox, like a fennec. I could take it everywhere and he would be my best friend. 🖤 . #fnwreadchallenge: book recommended by a friend #romancebingogame: LGBTQ+ romance #gmbingochallenge: Diverse Romance . . #bookstagram #taxidermy #skulls #odditieshaus #reignofthefallen #songofthedead #necromancy #yalit #readersofinstagram #igbooks
